How I Avoid Creator Burnout (3 Best Practices)
BOUNDARIES: Setting Clear Boundaries as a creator
You have heard it before but have you really taken the time to set boundaries? I did not do this when I first started or even after 2 years of work. I was tired, creating sub-par content, and not enjoying any of the process. Only after I had to stop for 2 months did I realize I had burned out to the point I almost quit.
When you set the right boundaries as a creator you are allowing yourself to create, work hard, but step away so you can prolong the business and keep going.
Action Steps to setting boundaries for your business:
Designate Work Hours: Define specific start and end times for your workday. Stick to these times to avoid work bleeding into personal time.
Create a Dedicated Workspace: Set up a physical or virtual workspace that is solely used for work. This can help signal to your brain that it’s time to focus.
Implement "Work-Free" Zones: Establish areas or times where work is not allowed, such as during family meals or in your bedroom.
Benefits:
Work-Life Balance: Helps in separating work from personal life, which can reduce stress and increase satisfaction in both areas.
Focus: Creates a mental and physical environment conducive to productivity during work hours.
The Biggest long term solution you could do for yourself is set up a content production system to follow month to month. You can find links in the description for this.
PRIORITIES: Prioritize Self-Care to keep your business running smoothly
Self care is important for a creator, business owner, or a personal brand.
If you are not spending the time away from the business to enjoy life you are probably sacrificing quality of work and ultimately hurting your brand overall.
I struggle with self care personally as I always want to keep working but you can only work so hard for so long before you hit the brick wall and when that happens all business stops.
Action Steps self care as a business owner:
Schedule Regular Breaks: Use techniques like the Pomodoro Technique (25 minutes of work followed by a 5-minute break) to ensure you’re taking regular pauses.
Exercise and Movement: Incorporate physical activity into your daily routine, whether through a workout, yoga, or simply walking.
Healthy Eating and Hydration: Maintain a balanced diet and stay hydrated. Avoid excessive caffeine and junk food which can lead to crashes in energy and mood.
Adequate Sleep: Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night to ensure you’re well-rested and can function optimally.
Benefits:
Physical and Mental Health: Enhances overall well-being, reducing the risk of burnout and improving mood and energy levels.
Increased Productivity: Well-rested and healthy individuals are more focused and efficient.
WORKLOAD: Manage Workload as a business owner or creator for better overall growth
I talk about this a lot because it is a problem for me that I believe many of you also suffer from. When it comes to managing a workload this does not mean take on as much as you can as fast as you can. This approach can leave you feeling accomplished but also overwhelmed.
What happens when we take on too much too fast? We tend to produce lower quality work and that low quality work will yield low quality results.
If you product 10 pieces of content all low quality you will get %50 less engagement or sales as you would with 5 pieces of High quality content.
Action Steps to managing your workload properly:
Break Tasks into Smaller Chunks: Divide large projects into smaller, manageable tasks. This makes them less overwhelming and easier to tackle.
Set Realistic Goals: Use SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals to guide your work and track progress.
Use Task Management Tools: Leverage tools like Trello, Asana, or Todoist to keep track of tasks and deadlines.
Delegate When Possible: If you’re working in a team, delegate tasks to others to share the workload.
Benefits:
Reduced Overwhelm: Smaller tasks and realistic goals prevent feeling bogged down by a large project.
Increased Efficiency: Structured task management leads to better organization and productivity.
By incorporating these steps into your routine, you can create a balanced, sustainable approach to your creative business and significantly reduce the risk of burnout.
If you want to ensure you don't burnout I suggest you look into setting up a structured content system for yourself. I created a course specifically for this you can find links in the description
